Some of the places I have been were so extraordinary that I had to share them.

2003 Trip to Atlantis

Atlantisbeach.jpg

I would describe it as one of the great manmade wonders of the world.  The beaches are white sand and the water is clear aquamarine.  Located on Paradise Island off of Nassau in the Bahamas, it is a quick flight from Baltimore.

My son who was 5 at the time, had the most fun.  The entire resort is an outdoor aquarium with sharks of many species all over the grounds.  Since my son was a shark fanatic, he was overjoyed to wake up and look down from our balcony and watch nurse sharks being fed.

My wife and I were able to spend an entire afternoon together on the beach and by the pool while our son was off to Discovery Camp.  The theme that day was Pirates of the Carrabean.

We will always return to Atlantis.

2004 Trip to Iceland

Glacier behind me

This was one of the most extraordinary views in Iceland.  I am standing on the lava flow of a dormant volcano called Hekla with the largest glacier in Iceland behind me.

Midnight Sun

The famous midnight sun as I experienced it while playing golf in the Amstel Light Iceland Open on one of the 2 great golf courses.

My friend Hannes and I teeing off at a practice round before the midnight round. Although the weather was a little cool and windy, it didn't feel cold.

Deep Purple Concert

As luck would have it, while visiting for the golf outing, I was fortunate enough to see Deep Purple in concert.  I was given VIP tickets and realized the fans here are bigger than America.

All in all this trip was facinating.  I didn't get a picture of it, but on the way to the airport for my departure, I spent a few hours at the world famous Blue Lagoon.  This should be the eight wonder of the world.

2005 Trip to Iceland

98rock.jpg

This time around to Iceland was spent with the crew from 98 Rock radio station in Baltimore.  Mickey and Amelia were having loads of fun while doing daily broadcasts from the land of Fire and Ice.  I met some wonderful friends that won the trip through a contest from 98 Rock.

Keilir2.jpg

This year the golf weather was better and we played the ocean course called Kieler.  Here I am teeing off on one of the most beautifully scenic golf spots in the world.  This was at 10:30 pm.

Petur.jpg

I can't help but mention my good friend and fellow viking Petur.  He talked me into going on these extraordinary trips.  Here we are at the banquet following the 2 rounds of golf.  This is where Mickey did a little stand up routine, Iclandic style.  I thought he was hillarious.

Snowmobile1.jpg

Talk about extreme sports.  I rode a snowmoble on a glacier with visiblity near zero.  We luckily didn't fall into any cracks.  I did wipe out once, but no broken bones. Did I mention that this was in June?!

It was another great visit to a far away place but Icelandair sure did make it a comfortable flight and only 5 hours.  Not bad.  Iceland is definitely on my list of places to always return where the people are very friendly and speak english, were Siggy Hall will treat you to the best of dining in his own restaurant, and were you can do a pub crawl starting at midnight and you never know how late you've been out because the sun is still shining!

2005 Trip to Grand Canyon

Our trip started out in Las Vegas.  We stayed one night at Mandalay Bay and got up early to go mountain biking on an 8 mile trek on Blue Diamond Mountain.

Donandmebiking.jpg

At this point in the mountainbiking we had trekked to the to of the mountain and took a great photo op.  From here it was down hill all the way.

At our next day we drove out over the dam and stayed overnight at the Havasu Lodge.  We got our backpacks ready and left at 5am the next morning.

canyonrim.jpg

This is where we started on our 12 mile hike down into the Grand Canyon.  It took 5 hours, but one of the most extraordinary scenic hikes I have ever seen.

tentandgear.jpg

Our campsite was right on the Havasu river. Luckily no flooding occurred.  Although the racoons ate all of our snacks out of the backpacks the first night.

sittingonedge.jpg

This was quite a dramatic photo to take.  I am sitting on the cliff with my feet dangling out 80 feet up looking down the Havasu Falls.  You can even see my shadow below.  The next day we hiked another 12 miles to the Colorado River.  This hike was the most testing of my ablilities.  We crossed the Havasu River 12 times barefoot carrying our boots, scaled rock walls 50 feet up, and barely made it out by nightfall.  It became pitch black, and luckily I was the only one who brought a head lamp to get us out.

Havasufalls.jpg

At the bottom of Havasu Falls there is a feeling of peace and tranquility.  Most of the other pics I took on this trip were in video format.  The final leg of the trip Johnny and I rode horses out of the canyon.  We had had enough hiking.  We ended the trip back in Vegas where we stayed at the Luxor.  The spa was the perfect way to relax after all of that exercise.
